San Antonio Ready to Work (RTW) is San Antonio’s unprecedented education and job placement program.

In 2020, San Antonio voters overwhelmingly approved the $200 million program, which is funded by a 1/8-cent sales tax. Local employers have pledged support for the program and provide guidance relating to in-demand, well-paid occupations, and relevant training.

The program works to have local employers pledge to engage in the program and hire participants. Ready to Work coaches help applicants through the process of developing a career and training plan while helping to connect to resources like childcare and transportation. Additionally, coaches help with preparing for job interviews and helping people find a job they love. The costs of approved courses are covered (up to cap).

SA Worx, the workforce development arm of the economic development organization greater:SATX, works to ensure San Antonio is the top choice for employers and community members to fulfill the employment needs of local and regional companies. They work with various community partners to create a sustainable and scalable employee talent base. 

SA Worx’s ultimate goal, as explained by Romanita Matta-Barrera, Chief Workforce Officer, is to give students in Bexar County and surrounding communities first-hand, real-life, work experience that will prepare for whatever training or career path they choose and keep that pool of employees in our community. SA Worx hosts events such as Job Shadow Day, Internships and Internships.

TX Fame is the premier advanced manufacturing workforce education and development program, helping students become highly skilled, globally competitive, well-rounded and sought-after talent that can meet the unique needs and challenges of today’s modern manufacturing workforce. Every year, FAME graduates’ transition into well-paying, diverse career pathways in critical disciplines across the manufacturing industry and across the country.

The Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program administered under the FAME model leverages a work/learn framework to weave technical knowledge, professional behaviors and distinct manufacturing core exercises into a focused co-op experience to build global-best, entry-level, multi-skilled maintenance technicians.

Alamo Colleges is the local community college network, consisting of 5 community colleges around the greater San Antonio area along with seven satellite campuses. Alamo Colleges has a diverse portfolio of degree programs and locations spread across the MSA for easy accessibility. Additionally, if you are a business that needs specialized training, Alamo Colleges can provide proprietary training and additional financial resources through the Skills Development Fund.

Lastly, Alamo Colleges launched its Alamo Promises program that is working to ensure access to education for all local students by providing for the cost of tuition and mandatory fees for up to three years to eligible graduating seniors from the San Antonio area.
