Responsibilities
Job Summary
This important Electrical Designer Engineering position will primarily focus on the accurate CAD creation of electrical drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), enclosure layouts, programming of the PLC/Logo, and related technical documentation for the quoting, design, and fabrication of custom electrical control panels. In this role you will additionally provide guidance, oversight, and mentorship to the control panel team, ensuring quality output, process consistency, and alignment with project objectives. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, outside stakeholders, and other departments to ensure customer satisfaction and timely production of a first-class product.
Major Duties
- Work closely with production, quality assurance, procurement, and sales teams to support efficient project execution and to resolve quality and production issues
- Responsible for engineering projects by assigning, delegating, organizing or final edit of project elements including all engineering and electrical schematics and drawings
- Responsible for developing, executing, and delivering the appropriate information documentation for reference to all stakeholders inside the company and out
- Evaluate new technologies, tools, and components for potential integration into current and future products
- Thorough understanding of all products and applications, mechanisms as well as OEM’s procedural requirements
- Approves team provided project specifications based on product design, customer requirements, and performance standards
- Completes, delegates, and approves technical studies of prepared cost estimates and quote calculations with accurate margins
- Confirms product performance by designing and conducting tests; checking teams’ work by verifiable, repeatable method
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical training to control panel team members
- Support team performance growth through constructive feedback, coaching, and skills development
- Design, develop and analyze new electronics devices and components
- Create and analyze product specification and process requirements to conceive a practical electronics design
- Proficiency in working with both hardware and embedded firmware
- Proficiency in working with analog circuits, digital circuits, microcontrollers, and sensor technologies
- Ensure that engineering standards, UL 508A requirements, and internal procedures are consistently applied across the team
- Champion best practices for electrical design methodologies, documentation, file management, and revision control Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical for custom control panels
- Program and troubleshoot PLC systems (primarily Siemens Logo) for standard and custom applications
- Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and size electrical components (power supplies, relays, breakers, transformers, etc.) based on application requirements
- Develop and review quotes for custom control panels, ensuring proper component selection, cost accuracy, and margins
- Interpret customer specifications and translate them into functional electrical designs

Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability work in a motivational team environment
- Ability to design electrical schematic diagram for panels based on a quote
- Experience in electrical drafting
- Knowledge of the principles of engineering and construction
- Understanding of control logic, control processes and the principles of electrical currents
- Proficiency in working with both hardware and embedded firmware
- Proficiency in working with analog circuits, digital circuits, microcontrollers, and sensor technologies
- Maintain UL 508A/6098A compliance
- Experience with test equipment
- Experience with UL 508A panel design and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of NEC, control panel wiring practices, and applicable industrial standards
- Ability to design panels for hazardous locations (Class I, Division 1 / Division 2) – preferred
- Ability to establish credibility and rapport with leadership and other internal or external stake holders and departments
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and diplomatically
- Ability to anticipate, solve and resolve problems in best practices manner
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to maintain multiple projects simultaneously without sacrificing quality or service with a mindfulness to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines and goals under strict or tight timelines
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Supply Chain, or similar field
- 1-5 years of experience in controls engineering role preferred; lead experience a strong plus
- PLC programming knowledge
Preferred Software Knowledge
- Inventory Management Systems (SalesForce, Fishbowl) - preferred
- Microsoft Office Suite - preferred
- Familiar with VOIP phone systems – preferred
- PLC programming knowledge/ladder logic – highly preferred
- AutoCAD-required
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk (often)
- Must be able to lift up to 20lbs. (occasionally)
- Warehouse environments with occasional extreme heat/loud machinery (occasionally)
